This was so very, very powerful. I applaud your strength, courage, and dignity. So few people understand the heaviness of what you have endured. So many people would chastise your decision to stay. And yet, it is that quiet, unyielding strength that your boys will look up to in the future and that forms the foundation of a woman who will rediscover her true self. Life - and the relationships in them - can levy heavy and unexpected tolls, but we can come out the other side wiser, more aware, more compassionate (especially with ourselves) and more capable. Thank you for sharing such a touching, honest, personal journey - it was painful, yet inspiring, especially for those of us who have lived through the same. <3

My questions became accusations.

My love became pressure.

My presence became a burden.."

Thank you, SnowPuppy. I'm so glad my writing resonated with you.

I used to think that if I ever caught my husband with another woman, I would walk straight out of the door. But when I was faced with that reality, the choice wasn't nearly as simple as I'd imagined.

After 24 years of marriage, you aren't just leaving a betrayer. You're leaving everything you've known throughout your entire adult life. You're disrupting the lives of your children and compromising financially on the life you've worked so hard to build.

But staying comes at a cost too. Compromising your values and your emotional needs is a price that can't be taken lightly.

The image of them walking side by side hurt more than any explanation could. It reveals how betrayal is often not only about another person, but about suddenly seeing what was withheld from you for years. I’m glad the writing gives your voice a place where it no longer has to compete with the ghost.
